‘First drafts are terrible, writing is rewriting, editing’

Most aspiring writers are disheartened by initial drafts, but Booker Prize-longlisted author Kevin Barry has some advice for them: “First drafts are always terrible. Writing is rewriting and editing and taking away all the messy scaffolding and finding that there is a story and a shape there.”
